Developing fabric part with ZHANG JUNHAN

The idea of this chair was started during my MA degree project when I was trying to figure out how to attach fabric to the aluminum profile. I developed this idea and put it on the bending pipes which are always my favorite form during my study. The name of this chair is because I always pronounced the “round” wrong, making it sounds more like “wrong”. So here we have the Wrong line chair.

Materials have always been one of the starting points of my design process. I believe that a good design concept is achieved through the reasonable and clever use of materials and their combinations. Personally, I really enjoy working with metal. I find metal to be honest, reliable, and long-lasting. Round tubes have a sense of orderly beauty that I particularly appreciate. Many people see them as a relatively cheap material, but that also makes them a democratic material—allowing a good design to be accessible to many people. I aim for a balance of character between different materials, which is why I chose to pair powder-coated round tubes with velvet fabric in the design of the Wrong Line chair.
